UIA and Schalits parents appeal to Canadians for support

On March 7, United Israel Appeal Canada and Noam Schalit, the father of abducted Israeli soldier Gilad Schalit, will host a live broadcast at 1pm EST. Canadians, who can join the 15-minute broadcast by visiting this link, will have an opportunity to hear from Schalit's father and stand in solidarity with him and his family.

The broadcast will take place in the tent Schalit’s parents have been living in since July, which is pitched outside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s house. Aviva and Noam Schalit have vowed to camp outside Netanyahu’s home until their son is released.

Schalit was kidnapped more than four years ago when his unit was ambushed by Hamas terrorists. Little contact has been made since then - once in 2008, Schalit sent a letter to his family, and in 2009, he appeared in a two-minute video which was released to the Israeli public in exchange for 20 female Palestinian prisoners.

Also taking place on March 7 is an event at the Sephardic Kehila Community Centre in Thornhill, Ont. Karnit Goldwasser, widow of IDF soldier Ehud Goldwasser, who was kidnapped in 2006, along with Eldad Regev by Hezbollah in a cross-border raid, will be speaking at the event. International human rights expert Irwin Cotler, and Israel’s consul general in Toronto Amir Gissin will also address the gathering.
