Jason Segal to star in sweet new comedy

Jason Segal
What do you get when you combine one of the funniest Jewish actors and a massive maple syrup heist?

Apparently, it's the recipe for a hilarious Hollywood comedy.

Jason Segal, who stars on How I Met Your Mother, is set to star in an upcoming film about the heist that resulted in an estimated $18 million loss of maple syrup between 2011 and 2012. The script will be based on reporting by Anne Sutherland, writing for the Montreal Gazette.

The theft was no laughing matter to those in the industry. Thieves stole 16,000 45-gallon barrels from a  St-Louis-de-Blandford, Que. warehouse and took it to Kedgwick, N.B., where it was later found, and most of it recovered. Eighteen people in total were arrested.

Nevertheless, with Seth Gordon (whose most recent directing project was Identity Thief) at the helm of the project, and Family Guy writer Chris Sheridan set to write the script, this serious crime could be the basis for a seriously funny film.
