Toronto morning show host loses sidekick

Longtime radio morning show host Todd Shapiro has left CFNY-FM's (102.1 The Edge) Dean Blundell Show after more than 12 years on the air.

"A lot of you people have been asking about what’s going on with Todd and where he is. I’m sad to say no longer with the show, leaving the morning show team here at the Edge," co-host Dean Blundell told listeners yesterday morning.

The departure comes one week after the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council (CBSC) announced it had decided that a conversation on the show from Nov. 13, 2012, in which the hosts commended a man who beat up a protestor at a Remembrance Day ceremony, "sanctioned, promoted and glamorized violence," which goes against the CBSC's code of ethics.

However, it is not clear whether the move is related to the decision, which is not the first of its kind for the program. Last year, the council rebuked the hosts for derogatory comments they made about women.

Blundell told listeners that a new host will join the show in the fall.
