Russell Crowe claims circumcision is 'barbaric'

In light of the looming circumcision law in in San Francisco, actor Russell Crowe decided to give his opinion on what he feels is a “barbaric and stupid” tradition.

Crowe took to twitter to criticize those who practice circumcision, calling it an “immoral” thing to do.

In response to those who told Crowe that circumcision was done for hygienic reasons, the Gladiator star responded “Hygienic? Why don't you sew up your a** then”

When other twitter followers brought up the brit milah ceremony, when a newborn Jewish boy is circumcised, he replied "Honestly you are comparing sexual mutilation with a Jewish ceremonial act?! F**K that. The Mayans had ceremonial acts too!”

However, Crowe was quick to assure his fans that he is not anti-Semitic, tweeting “I love my Jewish friends, I love the apples and the honey and the funny little hats but stop cutting your babies @eliroth"

Eli Roth replied to the tweet, joking, “You didn't seem to be complaining when I was recutting you this afternoon”

Crowe is currently working with director Eli Roth on his new movie The Man With the Iron Fists, a martial arts movie in which Crowe is starring in.

However, following the incident, Crowe has been forced to remove his comments from his twitter page, as he has come under fire, being accused of being anti-Semitic.

Crowe once again took to twitter to apologize to all his fans, stating “I have a deep and abiding love for all people of all nationalities, I'm very sorry that I have said things on here that have caused distress. My personal beliefs aside I realize that some will interpret this debate as me mocking the rituals and traditions of others. I am very sorry."
