Franco and Kunis will star in Wizard of Oz prequel

Jewish actors James Franco and Mila Kunis have landed the lead roles in an upcoming prequel to the classic movie The Wizard of Oz.

Oz, The Great and Powerful, tells the story of what happens before Dorothy goes over the rainbow and arrives in Oz.

Franco will be playing a fast-talking con artist who finds himself blown away by a hot a

ir balloon, landing in the magical city of Oz. There, he meets Glinda the Good Witch, who requires his help to get rid of her two evil sisters.

Kunis will be playing Glinda’s sister Theodorah, The Wicked Witch of The West, a good witch turned bad after Franco’s character rejects her sexual advances.

There’s no word yet on who is signing on to play Glinda or her other evil sister, but others stars suggested to join the movie include Olivia Wilde, Amy Adams, Keira Knightly, Kate Beckinsale and Rebecca Hall.

This will be the third time that Kunis and Franco have worked together, previously teaming up in 2007 to do a spoof of the popular reality TV show The Hills, and most recently, to play a shady couple on the run in the 2010 comedy Date Night.

Production for the movie will start in July, and is set to be released in 2013.

With Spider Man director Sam Raimi and producer Joe Roth behind the film, Oz, The Great and Powerful is sure to be a classic hit.
