Israel gets a Winter Blast

This is why a few years back after my Birthright experience in Israel, I made the decision, the next time I would see Eretz Yisrael, it would be in the summer months.

Blisteringly hot as it may then be, better to travel around in the warmth then run into snow piled up on the Golan Heights, in the Galilee and dusting Jerusalem, as rain, hail and strong winds sweep across the country.

Schools in the Golan Heights were canceled and roads were closed to traffic. Six inches to a foot of snow fell on Israel's only skiing site, Mount Hermon, which was closed today.

The Jerusalem municipality was prepared in advance with snow plows, bulldozers and salt.

The rain and unseasonably cold weather is expected to continue through Shabbat Saturday. So glad sunny days and mostly zero plus degree conditions are here at home.
