US Air flight 3079 on route from Laguardia airport in New York City to Louisville was diverted today to Philadelphia, after an Orthodox 17 year old Jewish passenger's tefillin was mistaken for a bomb during morning prayers.
The passengers and crew were taken off the plane in Philadelphia. Fire trucks, police and FBI met the plane on the runway.
The Jewish passenger and his girlfriend were detained, questioned and released, permitted to re-board the plane with the rest of the passengers and continue on to Louisville. No one was arrested in the incident.
What is astounding to see in this report from CBS is the level of detail they assign to explaining what tefillin is and the shock on the anchor's face at the level of caution now taken on flights even domestically traveling in the U.S.A.
How do you feel about heightened state of safety measures taken around the world?
