To boldly not go where he'd gone before...

If you're a member of the geek community (and I count myself as one), then you're no doubt already aware that there will be a new Star Trek major motion picture out sometime in 2008. The movie, simply titled "Star Trek" ( for now at least) is being directed by J.J. Abrams, who's executive produced TV shows such as "Lost" and "Alias".

The story will be a prequel to the known Star Trek universe, following the paths of Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock and most of the other characters us geeks have come to know and love over the years.

But while Leonard Nimoy will reprise his role as Spock in some form or another, everyone's favourite Montreal-born Jew, William Shatner, 76, has not been invited to play Kirk. Shatner's been griping about this in the media over the past week.

Perhaps Shatner will clamour is way into the script yet.
