No, Simon & Garfunkel have not gone haredi

Check out these two haredi brothers from Jerusalem, both rabbis, as they perform their haunting rendition of Simon & Garfunkel's Sounds of Silence on the new Israeli reality show Rising Star.

The brothers, Aryeh and Gil Gat, are apparently known to Jerusalemites for their busking along Jaffa Road and elsewhere, where they've been known to sing the Beatles Nowhere Man, Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here, and even a little Eric Clapton thrown in for good measure.

Rising Star, which allows viewers to vote for performers in real time via a cellphone app and the web, debuted on Israel's Channel 2 over Sukkot. It's a huge hit – garnering nearly half the audience in its time slot – and foreign broadcasters are already licensing the format for their own countries.
