Yom Hazikaron / Yom Ha'atzmaut 2012

Today is Yom Hazikaron. Tomorrow, Yom Ha'atzmaut.

The little Jewish country that could is turning 64 years old. And over the course of those 64 years, and indeed even before the country's official establishment, men and women have given their lives to secure the promise of the state of Israel.

"A total of 22,993 men and women have been killed defending the land of Israel since 1860, the year that the first Jewish settlers left the secure walls of Jerusalem to build new Jewish neighborhoods. Since the end of the War of Independence, 2,457 people have been killed in Israel in terror attacks - 14 in the past year. Since Remembrance Day 2011, 126 members of the security forces - police, IDF, Border Police, Israel Security Agency and other organizations - have been killed in the service of the state."

Today we honour and remember the fallen. Tomorrow, we celebrate their victory for the Jewish people and the enduring legacy of Israel.

And one from Bibi.
