Still, some Canadian national broadcaster (rumour has it it's The CBC) has decided to opt-in on a new reality show called "Lake Shore". It's all about highlighting the exploits of young, urban, sexy, multicultural, Toronto 20-somethings who Zzzzzz...! Wha?! I fell asleep. Sorry.
Anyway, you get the picture. But what you also get with this soon-to-be-released show is a trailer that strikes what some (Canadian Jewish Congress) are calling an anti-Semitic tone. Watch this (sorry, you have to or you won't get to have an opinion about this blog). It happens around the 1min 40sec mark.
See what they did there? Stereotypes, anyone? Taking the Jewish or rather, the anti-Jewish angle? Or maybe you don't see it that way? In any event, if my hard-earned tax dollars end up paying for this DOA show, I'm gonna be migghtily miffed. Hear that CBC?
What do you think?
UPDATE:
JTA published an apology, see below, from the producers of the show over the weekend. How nice of them to feel some remorse, if real. Now let's go party like it's 1999.
Maryam Rahimi, executive producer of Lake Shore, told media last week that
"we are not a racist show. If we offended anyone in any way, we apologize."
In interviews last week, Sibel Atlug, 23, who made the remark about Jews,
said, "I don't hate Jewish people. I actually say I hate everybody equally.
I was just poking fun at it."
The National Post has this article on the show-that-isn't-yet. An interesting read.

This is a joke, right? This can't be real.
OY. It's bad enough that someone thinks a show about annoying, loud Torontonians is good TV, but annoying, loud, anti-semetic Torontonians? Please. Yawn. Your tax dollars at work.
This just seems to be another one of those trash programs that bleep out all the four-letter-words, but leave all the racist, homophobic, anti-Semitic, etc., content intact. Shows you what they consider to be a worse offense. Anyways, the best way to deal with this CTV garbage is to use the "off" switch. Every TV set has one.
